Research and Engagement

Our programme of lectures, seminars and conferences make us a hub for academic research on China.

With Lancaster University China Centre we host speakers from around the world in our Academic Seminar Series.

We work with Lancaster’s academic faculties, departments, centres and our partners, to organise high level research conferences which are attended by international academics.

Here are some of the other ways we facilitate research collaboration.

Lancaster China Engagement Fund

Lancaster University Confucius Institute invite all academic and professional services staff at Lancaster University to apply for the Lancaster China Engagement Fund. We will be able to fund two China-related engagement projects per calendar year up to the value of £3,000 each. This fund will be used to cover costs of networking and knowledge exchange activities led by the successful applicant. Unfortunately, we will not be able to cover the costs of research time and research support or assistance. This is an open call and thus all China-related projects are welcome. Preference will go to projects closely linking with Lancaster University Strategic plan 2021-2026: Strategic Plan | Lancaster University.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. To apply, please email a description of your project and budget (within one page) to ci@lancaster.ac.uk with “Lancaster China Engagement Fund” as the subject. Selected projects will be invited to a meeting with Director of the Confucius Institute, Dr Derek Hird, and final decisions will be made within a week after the meeting. Supported projects must acknowledge contributions provided by Lancaster University Confucius Institute. If you wish to discuss your project informally, please contact Director of Lancaster University Confucius Institute, Dr Derek Hird at d.hird@lancaster.ac.uk .
