Professor Jianqiao Ye BEng, MSc, PhD

Chair in Mechanical Engineering

Profile

Professor Jianqiao Ye is a professor emeritus and former chair of mechanical engineering at Lancaster University. He was a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (FIMechE), a Member of the Royal Aeronautical Society (MRAeS), and a Chartered Engineer (CEng).

Professor Ye’s research spans a wide spectrum of engineering science and technology, including failure and damage mechanics of fibre?reinforced composites, advanced steel¨Cconcrete composite structures, geopolymers, lightweight and sustainable cementitious materials, cement and concrete carbonation, offshore oil and gas structures, and vibration energy harvesting.

He has extensive experience in experimental testing, numerical modelling, and optimisation of complex materials and structural systems. His recent work integrates advanced analytical techniques¡ªsuch as X?ray computed tomography (X?CT), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X?ray diffraction (XRD), and energy?dispersive spectroscopy (EDS)¡ªwith data?driven approaches, including metamodelling, machine learning, and digital twin technologies.

Professor Ye’s contributions to composite materials and advanced structural systems have achieved international recognition, with significant impact on industrial applications. His research has been supported by major UK and international funding bodies, including the European Commission, EPSRC, the Royal Society, and the Royal Academy of Engineering, as well as numerous industrial partners such as Airbus, BAE Systems, Dunlop, DSTL, ITASCA, Network Rail, QinetiQ and Force Technology.

He has authored three books and more than 250 refereed papers in international journals and conference proceedings and holds 10 patents. His publications have received over 9,000 citations, and he has an H?index of 54 ().

Professor Ye has been listed among , appearing in both the Lifetime Scientific Influence Ranking and the Global Scientists Influence Ranking published annually by Elsevier in the Elsevier Data Repository.
