Remembering Dr Allan Chapman: a lasting legacy for future Lancaster students

Lancaster University is remembering historian and alumnus Dr Allan Chapman, who has generously left a legacy to the University in his will.

Allan graduated from Lancaster with a degree in History in 1972, before going on to study for a postgraduate degree at Wadham College, Oxford University, where he later taught the history of science in the Faculty of History.

The David Walmsley Medical Elective Bursaries

An important milestone in the final year of Lancaster’s Medicine and Surgery degree is the medical elective, giving students the opportunity to arrange a placement in a clinical setting that reflects their interests and aspirations. The David Walmsley Medical Elective Bursaries have been established to help alleviate financial anxieties and allow students to make the most of their elective.

Strengthening our Student Mental Health Service

Thanks to the Lancaster University Opportunity Fund, we have been able to expand the University's targeted mental health support framework, enabling wraparound support for all students beyond our usual service opening hours through the provision of a 24/7 telephone helpline providing ‘in the moment’ support for all Lancaster students.
